At a glance

If you have a place at a licensed UAE educational or research institution, you may be able to get student residence. The institution can sponsor you, or an eligible parent living in the UAE may be able to do so.

Course acceptance: Admission and enrollment at a licensed UAE educational or research institution
Sponsor: The institution or an eligible parent who already lives in the UAE
Work and continued stay: Residence depends on your studies and sponsor; work needs separate approval

Summary

Students moving to the UAE for an accepted course need residence sponsorship from the licensed institution or an eligible parent already living there. Admission starts the process, but the student still needs the residence checks and insurance. Any job, accompanying family application, or stay after study must have the appropriate separate approval.

Arrange your student residence

Confirm your place Get the institution's admission letter and confirmation of your course length.
Confirm your sponsor Check whether the institution or an eligible resident parent will sponsor you.
Complete the residence steps Prepare the required education approval, insurance, medical and identity records, and Emirates ID application.

Admission does not automatically give you residence. A parent must meet the applicable sponsorship and family requirements.

Eligibility

You need:

Admission and enrollment at a licensed UAE educational or research institution.
An institution or eligible resident parent to sponsor you.
Education-authority approval, valid health insurance, any required medical fitness checks, and the usual identity and residence documents.

For sponsorship by a parent, sons over 25 need proof of higher education. Unmarried daughters can remain sponsored regardless of age.

What This Route Allows

The permit allows you to remain in the UAE for the approved study period. University students may also apply for their family's residence if they can afford suitable housing.

What This Route Is Not

It is not a general employment visa or permanent residence. Employment, family members' permits, and post-study residence require separate approval.
