Summary
Bermuda’s Economic Investment Residential Certificate offers residence based on a qualifying investment, subject to review of the applicant and source of funds. The September 2026 policy adds a mandatory charitable donation and BDA administration fee, so the total commitment needs to be checked before choosing an investment. The donation can count within the qualifying investment.
Residence under the certificate does not confer Bermudian status or unrestricted work rights. An investment in a business can still involve the separate work-permit rules, and a property purchase may need landholding approval.
Eligibility
Applicants must be at least 18 and establish a qualifying investment and the required charitable component. BDA checks the investment, source of funds, and personal records before the Minister decides. Published underlying terms require maintaining the qualifying investment for five years and spending at least 90 days in Bermuda in each of those years. Confirm that these terms and your proposed investment structure meet the complete 2026 policy with BDA before applying. Budget the BMD 10,000 BDA fee and the applicable government charges separately from the investment.

What This Route Allows
A residential certificate providing indefinite residence subject to its conditions. Qualifying spouses and dependent children can be included under the policy.
What This Route Is Not
This is not citizenship, Bermudian status, or unrestricted permission to work. Separate work-permit rules apply, including the policy’s treatment of the business you invest in. Property purchases can require landholding approval. Older summaries omit the new donation and BDA fee.
