At a glance
If a qualifying institution in Cameroon accepts you for higher education, its enrollment records can support a long-stay visa application. You must then complete the local residence-card process and continue to meet the study requirements.
- Course acceptance
- Enrollment or re-enrollment certificate from the institution
- Funds required
- Evidence of financial support and the required arrangements for your return home
- Residence documents
- Long-stay visa, local address, criminal-record document, and tax-compliance evidence
Summary
Students pursuing qualifying education in Cameroon can apply to live there for their studies. The institution’s enrollment or re-enrollment certificate supports the long-stay visa and residence-card application. The student must complete those immigration steps as well as gaining admission. The card remains study permission and does not itself provide unrestricted employment or a graduate work visa.
Eligibility
Provide the institution's enrollment or re-enrollment certificate, financial-support evidence, and the required arrangements for your return home.
Obtain the correct long-stay visa. Under the 2025 residence-card rules, you then need passport and study records, proof of a local address, the specified special criminal-record document, and tax-compliance evidence for local card registration.
-
Document your studies Get the institution’s enrollment certificate and support evidence.
-
Arrange the long-stay visa Prepare the entry and return-home documents.
-
Complete the residence card Register locally and keep your study permission current.
Your admission, visa, and residence card are separate parts of the process.
What This Route Allows
You can stay for the approved studies and permit period. The residence card lasts two years and can be renewed twice under the 2025 decree, while your continuing studies must still qualify.
What This Route Is Not
Admission alone does not give you permission to stay. Student residence does not establish unrestricted work rights or guarantee a graduate work visa, permanent residence, or citizenship.
Next Steps
- Confirm your place and obtain the institution's enrollment certificate and immigration instructions.
- Prepare support, return-home, and personal records, and apply for the long-stay visa.
- Complete local residence-card registration and renew before expiry while continuing to meet the study conditions.
