Summary
Cabo Verde’s family-reunification category lets an eligible spouse abroad join a resident when the relationship meets the rules on previous cohabitation, dependency, or the shared household. The marriage can predate or follow the resident's arrival. Each spouse still needs a residence decision; the relationship alone does not issue permission.
Eligibility
Your spouse must hold valid residence permission. You need to prove the marriage and the relevant family connection: that you previously lived together, depend on your spouse, or form part of their household.
Ask for the spouse-specific checklist before booking travel. Prepare the marriage, household, financial-support, and accommodation records required for your circumstances.
-
Check your spouse’s residence and family eligibility Confirm which shared-household or support evidence is needed.
-
Gather the marriage and supporting records Prepare household, accommodation, financial, and personal documents.
-
Arrange entry and apply to join your spouse Check the approved residence conditions and renewal date.
Marriage is part of the evidence; you still need the entry and residence process.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Cabo Verde through family reunification, the process for joining a resident family member. Temporary residence lasts two years and can be renewed for further two-year periods, subject to the requirements.
What This Route Is Not
Marriage alone does not issue a residence permit. This spouse route does not itself establish an independent right to work or grant citizenship. Other relatives need to check the requirements that apply to their own relationship.
Next Steps
- Confirm your spouse’s valid residence status and the family conditions that apply.
- Gather the requested marriage, household, support, accommodation, and personal records.
- Arrange the appropriate entry permission and residence application.
- Check the approved card’s conditions, renewal requirements, and any separate permission needed for work.
