Summary
Nationals of countries covered by the MERCOSUR Residence Agreement can apply for Ecuadorian temporary residence on a nationality-based agreement route and later seek MERCOSUR permanent residence under the applicable timing and evidence rules.
Eligibility
This pathway may fit when the following route-specific requirements are met:
- Nationality of a state currently covered by Ecuador's implementation of the MERCOSUR Residence Agreement.
- A valid passport or identity document, criminal-record evidence, and the other current temporary-residence documents.
- For permanent residence, valid temporary MERCOSUR status and filing within the prescribed conversion period.
What This Route Allows
Temporary MERCOSUR residence authorizes lawful residence and covered activities in Ecuador. A holder who satisfies the conversion rules may move to permanent MERCOSUR residence.
What This Route Is Not
This is not automatic free movement at the border and is not Ecuadorian citizenship. Nationals outside the implemented agreement need another residence category.
Next Steps
- Confirm that the nationality is currently covered.
- Choose temporary residence or permanent conversion based on present status.
- Collect identity, criminal-record, means, and status documents.
- Apply through Ecuador's eVisas or competent consular channel.
