Summary

Estonia e-Residency is a government-issued digital identity for people outside Estonia who want remote access to Estonian digital business services. It can be useful if you want to start, run, or administer an Estonian company online, sign documents digitally, or use Estonia's business e-services.

It is not digital citizenship and it is not physical residence. E-Residency does not give you an Estonian passport, voting rights, a visa, tax residence by itself, or the right to live or work in Estonia.

Eligibility

What This Route Allows

If approved, this route gives you an Estonian e-Residency digital ID card. It can let you authenticate online, sign documents digitally, and use Estonian digital services, including remote company administration.

What This Route Is Not

This is not Estonian citizenship, a residence permit, a visa, a travel document, or permission to work locally in Estonia. If you want to live in Estonia, compare actual residence pathways such as the Estonia Startup Visa or Estonia Digital Nomad Visa.

Key Documents

Next Steps

  1. Decide whether an Estonian digital ID solves a real business-administration problem for you.
  2. Review the official e-Residency application steps and pickup locations.
  3. Apply online and pay the fee.
  4. Wait for the identity review and card delivery to the pickup location.
  5. Pick up the e-Residency kit in person and install the required ID software.
  6. If you also need to live in Estonia, apply separately for an immigration route that grants residence.
