An active owner of a viable Finnish business can apply for entrepreneur residence. The business must support the applicant through its income, and the authorities assess both the business and residence requirements.

Summary

Finland’s entrepreneur residence is for people actively running a business there, with approval based on the business’s prospects and the applicant’s role. The business must be viable and generate enough income to support the owner. Registering or passively owning a company does not by itself meet those tests.

An innovative business aimed at international growth should also be compared with Finland’s separate Startup Entrepreneur route. That process involves Business Finland, while the ordinary entrepreneur route focuses on the active business and its ability to provide the owner’s livelihood.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

Active business and livelihood
  1. Qualifying ownership Work personally in the eligible Finnish business structure.
  2. Viability and income Show that the business can support your livelihood.
  3. Two-stage assessment Follow the business assessment and residence process.

Check registration requirements and any applicable sole-trader first-application exception.

What This Route Allows

Live in Finland to operate the approved business.

What This Route Is Not

This is separate from the innovative Startup Entrepreneur permit. Passive ownership and work only through an invoicing company do not establish eligibility.

Next Steps
