Honduras Student Stay Permit

Honduras Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

If a Honduran institution accepts you for study or a qualifying professional placement, you can apply for a special stay permit. You must document admission and financial support. The permit can last up to five years, with a possible study-completion extension, but the student identity card is issued for one year and needs annual renewal.

Admission
Admission to study or an eligible placement
Support
Documented funds, sponsor, or scholarship
Work
Separate authorization must be checked

Summary

Honduras’s educational special stay permit allows accepted students and qualifying professional-placement participants to live there for that activity. School admission, immigration permission, and permission to work remain separate matters. Confirm the course and a budget that does not assume an ordinary local job.

Renewing after a study year requires evidence of successful course completion and continued enrollment. For an eligible placement, the host’s confirmation supplies the corresponding evidence. The permission remains tied to that educational activity.

The authorized stay and annual student card have different timelines
  1. Confirm the study or qualifying placement Obtain the institution’s admission and activity evidence.
  2. Prepare support and the application Include any minor’s responsibility undertaking and the current INM documentation.
  3. Maintain the annual student card Renew with academic evidence even when the overall authorized stay is longer.

The special stay is not an automatic graduate work permit or permanent residence.

Eligibility

Institutional admission

The institution must certify admission to the studies or professional placement. Confirm that it fits the national education system and student category before relying on an offer or paying a deposit.

Support during the stay

Show how you will support yourself for the period. For a minor, the responsible person or institution must provide the required written commitment. The cited student provisions do not set a single universal monthly funds figure.

Personal and immigration records

Use a Honduran legal representative to confirm the current way to submit the application and checklist with the National Migration Institute, known as INM. The regulation requires passport records, applicable foreign and Honduran background evidence, a medical certificate, photographs, and fees. Foreign documents need the required authentication and Spanish translation. Older legislation uses predecessor agencies’ names, so confirm who now issues each record.

Confirm the additional parent or guardian documents for a minor. Entry-visa requirements remain a separate nationality-specific check.

What This Route Allows

Approval allows the authorized study or placement. Renewal of the student card requires evidence of successful completion of the previous year’s courses and continuing enrollment; a placement uses confirmation from the host institution or organization.

Do not budget around an ordinary local job without separate confirmation of labor authorization. Admission to a placement is not a blanket permission to take unrelated employment.

What This Route Is Not

It is not an open graduate work permit or automatic permanent residence. The separate five-year inmigrado rules examine actual qualifying stay, valid documents, and compliance. A degree alone does not settle that test or provide an unrestricted work right.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm the institution’s admission and the appropriate study or placement category.
  2. Document support and any required written responsibility for a minor.
  3. Have the legal representative confirm the current INM checklist and application procedure.
  4. Maintain the student card and academic records, and review the next immigration basis before studies end.
