Summary

Ireland's Stamp 0 permission is for people who want to live in Ireland and can fully support themselves without working. It is most often used by retirees and people of independent means.

This is a discretionary permission from Ireland's Immigration Service Delivery. It is useful for people who want to reside in Ireland, but it is not designed as a work route or a straightforward citizenship pathway.

British citizens normally do not need this route because Common Travel Area rules let British and Irish citizens live and work in each other's country.

Eligibility

You may be a fit if:

The official guidance says financial documents should be shown clearly, converted into euros, and certified by an Irish accountancy firm that can understand the overseas financial records.

What This Route Allows

Stamp 0 can allow you to live in Ireland while supporting yourself from pension income, passive income, savings, or other accepted funds. It can be renewed if you continue to meet the conditions.

What This Route Is Not

This is not a work permission. Stamp 0 holders should not take Irish employment or rely on Irish public funds.

It is also not a strong route for someone whose main goal is Irish citizenship. Stamp 0 residence does not normally count in the same way as ordinary reckonable residence for naturalization.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm you can meet the €50,000 income level and have a separate lump-sum reserve.
  2. Speak with an Irish accountancy firm about certifying your financial documents.
  3. Arrange qualifying private medical insurance.
  4. Prepare the Stamp 0 application, including passport, civil records, financial evidence, health insurance, police clearance, and your reason for moving to Ireland.
  5. Apply for permission before travelling to Ireland.
  6. If you are from a visa-required country, complete the D-Reside visa step after receiving conditional approval.
  7. After arrival, complete Irish residence registration as instructed by ISD.
