Summary

South Korea’s degree-student residence route supports an accepted higher-education course. Admission, the immigration application, and permission for any paid work are separate decisions.

D2 is different from D4 language training. Admission does not guarantee a visa or give automatic permission to work during or after your studies.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

You need an admission certificate, institution documents, proof of your previous education, and financial-support records. Use the D2 category matching your degree.

Show how tuition and living costs will be paid through your own money, an accepted financial supporter, or a scholarship. Ask the institution for the required amount and document format.

The consulate may ask for nationality-specific records or a tuberculosis certificate. Confirm the entry and foreign-resident registration steps with the institution before you travel.

Preparing for a degree in South Korea
  1. Confirm admission and the D2 category Use the category matching your degree.
  2. Prepare funding and student records Include identity and any health documents requested by the consulate.
  3. Complete arrival and registration If approved Check your own work and renewal conditions.

School admission and immigration approval are separate. Student work hours vary by course and personal circumstances.

What This Route Allows

Approval lets you stay for the degree and period stated on your permission. Tell the institution if you change courses or stop attending.

Part-time work needs the relevant permission. Whether and how much you may work can depend on your Korean ability, academic progress, course level, and the job. Check your own conditions before starting.

What This Route Is Not

D2 does not cover a stand-alone Korean-language course under D4. There is no single number of permitted work hours for every D2 student.

Graduation does not automatically give permanent residence or unrestricted work rights. Any further stay or employment needs an appropriate separate permission.

Next Steps

  1. Ask the institution to confirm the D2 category for your degree and provide the checklist.
  2. Gather admission, academic, funding, identity, and required health records.
  3. Apply through the correct entry process and complete local registration on time.
  4. Check work and renewal conditions before relying on either, and plan separately for life after graduation.
