Summary
Moldova’s student residence lets students live in Moldova for their studies, supported by the institution’s enrollment evidence and the request required for the course. Some applications also need an education-ministry agreement, so the school’s role should be confirmed before the residence file is submitted.
-
Confirm enrollment and the study contract Obtain the Moldovan institution's required records.
-
Arrange institutional approval evidence The institution requests residence and addresses any education-ministry agreement or applicable exemption.
-
Complete the student's file Confirm entry, housing, support, insurance, and personal requirements.
An acceptance letter is only one part of the application. Continuing study remains necessary for renewal.
Eligibility
The Moldovan institution must request the residence approval and provide enrollment and study-contract records. Education-ministry agreement is needed where applicable, with exceptions for qualifying convention-country applicants.
You need a credible plan for paying tuition and everyday living costs in Moldova, together with the health coverage required for the permit. A scholarship or documented sponsor may help meet the financial requirement.
The course must be the real reason for the stay. Attendance, progress, and continued enrollment matter when renewing permission; admission alone does not grant a right to remain indefinitely.
More about this route
A student arranging a course therefore has reason to involve the institution early. An acceptance letter is only one part of the file; the entry basis, housing, health insurance, and living support also need to fit. A qualifying scholarship may help explain the funding, but the complete application still has to establish a lawful study stay.
Study residence will use the new residence framework
Study residence will use the new residence framework
Study is expressly covered by the new law. Students planning a later intake will need the application and residence-document rules applicable after the June 2027 transition, rather than assuming the present checklist will remain unchanged.
Timing: The main residence framework begins June 1, 2027. A June 2026 consultation concerned implementing procedures; that consultation is not itself the start of the new residence system.
What This Route Allows
The permit allows you to live in Moldova for the approved course. Work is limited by Moldova’s student-employment rules. The work arrangements need to remain compatible with the educational purpose and any limits attached to student status. They should be checked before treating expected earnings as part of the course budget.
What This Route Is Not
Permission remains tied to genuine enrollment and academic progress. A later job or longer-term status needs its own qualifying basis and, where required, a new application.
Next Steps
The institution can confirm whether the course qualifies and supply the admission or enrollment records. The responsible immigration authority or consulate establishes where the residence application must be filed, which personal documents are needed, and whether an entry visa is required. Coordinating those two parts helps align the course’s start date with the immigration process.
