Summary
Mongolia’s student residence route is for an accepted course of study at a qualifying institution. Admission, the immigration application, and permission for any paid work are separate decisions.
You also need to show how you will pay for tuition and living costs. A university place alone does not guarantee residence approval.
Eligibility
The university must provide a written request stating your field and length of study. Include your enrollment evidence or study agreement, tuition records, and the documents used for entry.
Your funding may come from your own money, an accepted financial supporter, or a scholarship. Ask the institution how much you must show and in what form.
Use the E2 higher-education process. You need a passport valid for at least 180 days, address records, and the required medical evidence. Apply for residence within 21 days after entry and attend the first-time identity and biometric checks, including any required fingerprint or photo collection.

What This Route Allows
E2 residence lets you stay for the approved studies, initially for up to one year. Read the permit for its dates and conditions, and tell your institution if you change courses or stop attending.
Do not assume student residence lets you take a separate paid job. Confirm the required work permission before accepting employment.
What This Route Is Not
Visa-free visitor entry is not E2 residence. Other education or training categories have different procedures.
Admission does not guarantee approval, and graduation does not automatically give permanent residence or unrestricted permission to work.
Next Steps
- Ask the university to confirm the E2 category and provide the course and enrollment documents.
- Prepare tuition and living-cost evidence, academic records, your passport, address, and medical documents.
- Follow the entry process and apply for residence within 21 days after arrival.
- Complete identity checks and review the permit’s work, renewal, and expiry conditions.
