Macao Student Permission to Stay
At a glance
An approved university or other higher-education place can let you stay in Macao as a student. The permission is called Special Authorization to Stay and does not give you Macao resident status.
- Purpose
- Stay in Macao for approved higher-education study
- Enrollment
- The institution must confirm your student registration
- Funding
- Tuition and living costs must be covered
Summary
If you enroll at an approved higher-education institution in Macao, you can apply for permission to stay for your studies. This is called Special Authorization to Stay.
It lets you stay as a student, but does not make you a Macao resident or automatically let you take a paid job.
Eligibility
Your school and funding
You must be enrolled at an institution that can confirm your student registration for the police application. Meet the school’s enrollment and funding requirements as well as the immigration rules.
Show how you will pay tuition and living costs, using your own funds, an accepted financial supporter, or a scholarship. Ask the school how much you must show and which documents are accepted.
The stay application
Your institution confirms your student information through the required system. Complete the police identity and travel-document checks before your current permission to stay expires.
Mainland Chinese students have separate travel-document and endorsement requirements. Keep the authorization updated if your passport changes or expires.
-
Confirm your enrollment Your institution checks the course and provides student information.
-
Apply before your stay expires Complete the police identity and travel-document checks.
-
Follow the study conditions If approved Keep your permission and travel document up to date.
This allows an approved study stay. It does not grant Macao resident status or automatic work rights.
What This Route Allows
Approval lets you stay for the approved study period, within the validity of your travel document. Check the dates and conditions on your own authorization. Tell the school if you change courses or stop attending.
Student permission does not, by itself, let you take an ordinary paid job. Check any work requirements separately.
What This Route Is Not
Special Authorization to Stay is not a Macao resident identity card or an automatic path to permanent residence.
Admission does not guarantee immigration approval. Graduation does not automatically let you stay permanently or work without restrictions.
Next Steps
- Ask the institution to confirm that your enrollment qualifies for student permission.
- Get its checklist and prepare funding, academic, identity, and any required health records.
- Follow the entry rules for your travel document and finish the police application before your current stay expires.
- Check the approved dates, renewal rules, and any separate permission needed for work.
