Summary

Mexico generally allows many Temporary Residents to switch to Permanent Residence after completing the maximum temporary-residence period. Temporary Residence is designed for stays longer than 180 days and up to 4 years.

This route is handled in Mexico through the National Migration Institute (INM). It is mainly relevant to people who already hold a Mexican Temporary Resident card.

For long-term residents, this is often the cleanest way to stop renewing temporary cards and move onto a more stable status.
