Summary
Peru’s student residence route lets an accepted student stay for qualifying study or training. The institution or host must confirm both acceptance and the course duration. Shorter study arrangements can belong to a different temporary category.
Shorter courses may use another category. Choose the correct procedure for your location: a visa from abroad or an eligible change of status inside Peru.
Eligibility
The course must be recognized by the Peruvian state. Eligible training placements need a host letter identifying the activity, duration of at least one year, and sending university or educational institution.
The student or sponsor must document the required financial support. Applying for a visa from abroad and changing status inside Peru are separate procedures; an in-country change requires the applicable lawful immigration status.
The application requires a valid passport or accepted travel document, applicable Interpol and criminal-record evidence, and the current immigration records. Exceptions apply to some minors and people unable to express their own wishes. Documents must meet the authentication and translation rules.
-
Confirm recognized study or training Obtain acceptance and evidence of at least one year's duration.
-
Gather financial and personal records Use the student or sponsor's financial evidence and the applicable background documents.
-
Choose the process for your location Distinguish a resident visa from abroad from an in-country status change requiring eligible lawful status.
Shorter courses may belong to another category. A training placement needs the host's required activity and sending-institution evidence.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Peru for the studies or training covered by the resident permission. It does not include ordinary employment permission; paid work needs the appropriate authorization.
What This Route Is Not
This is not an ordinary work permit or an automatic permanent-residence route. Paid work needs the appropriate authorization rather than an assumption based on enrollment.
Next Steps
- Obtain enrollment or training documents confirming the recognized program and its duration.
- Gather proof that you or your sponsor can fund the stay.
- Choose the initial visa process from abroad or confirm that your status allows an in-country change.
- Prepare your travel, immigration, and background records, with authentication and translations where required.
- Submit the application and check any separate approval needed before taking paid work.
