Albania Employee Residence and Work Permit
At a glance
If you have an eligible Albanian employment contract or formal job offer, you may apply for a permit that combines residence and work permission. Your employer must complete the required hiring steps, and you must show that you qualify for the job and meet the residence rules.

- Qualifying Albanian contract or formal offer
- Employer
- Employment approval or a documented exemption
- Limits
- Permission must cover the job before work begins
Summary
Albania's combined work-and-residence application relies on the proposed contract and any required employment approval. The length of the permission follows the contract and applicable rules. Confirm the approval before starting work; holding a signed offer is not enough.
-
Confirm the job and employer support Obtain the genuine Albanian contract or formal offer.
-
Check approval and licensing Confirm the applicable employment approval or exemption and any professional authorization.
-
Apply through the correct residence process Prepare the visa and residence evidence, then complete card and address steps after approval.
An employment exemption should not be assumed to remove all residence requirements. Begin work only with the required permission.
Eligibility
The employee route under Article 57 requires a genuine Albanian employment contract or formal offer, compliance with local employment law, and the relevant residence conditions.
The employer must support the employment-approval process unless a legal exemption applies. Article 80 includes nationality and status exemptions, with conditions attached; those exemptions should be confirmed for the specific applicant rather than assumed to remove every residence requirement.
Prepare the contract or offer in the prescribed form, qualification records, and any required professional license or recognition. General documents cover identity, lawful entry where relevant, housing, health coverage, and background requirements. The unique-permit procedure can allow filing by the foreign national, employer, or authorized representative, including eligible applications from abroad.
What This Route Allows
Once approved, the unique permit authorizes residence and the employment specified by its terms. Duration follows the contract or offer and applicable law. Check renewal and change-of-employer requirements before changing jobs. Qualifying holders may seek family reunification under its separate rules.
EU citizens have a separate residence-registration system under Article 33/1, with its own rules for qualifying family members. Check that system before applying for an ordinary residence permit. U.S. and Kosovo citizens have a general five-year first-permit provision under Article 33(5); confirm how it applies to your category and rely on the validity actually issued.
What This Route Is Not
This is not a job-search permit or permission to begin work while merely holding an offer. Foreign remote work, self-employment, seasonal work, and highly qualified Blue Card employment have distinct provisions. Albanian permission does not grant a right to work elsewhere in Europe.
