Summary
Australia's Student Guardian visa (Subclass 590) lets a parent, custodian, or eligible relative come to Australia to support a student visa holder who is under 18, or older in exceptional circumstances.
This is a temporary support route. It is tied to the student's stay and is not a work or permanent-residence pathway for the guardian.
Eligibility
Home Affairs lists core requirements including:
- Being the student's parent, custodian, or relative who is at least 21 years old.
- Having enough money to support yourself and the student.
- Having adequate health insurance.
- Being able to provide accommodation, welfare, and other support.
- Holding an eligible substantive visa if applying in Australia.
What This Route Allows
The visa can allow the guardian to come to Australia to care for and support the student. The length is tied to the student visa holder's stay and age.
What This Route Is Not
This is not a general parent migration route. It also is not a work visa for the guardian.
Next Steps
- Confirm the student's visa or planned Student visa.
- Confirm your relationship to the student and age.
- Prepare evidence of funds, health insurance, accommodation, and welfare arrangements.
- Check whether any younger dependants create complications.
