Bahrain Work Residence
At a glance
A qualifying job offer in Bahrain can allow your employer to apply for your work and residence permits. The employer must be allowed to hire you, and you need the required approvals before starting work.
- Job offer required?
- Yes, with an employer allowed to hire for the role
- Qualifications
- Any required professional license or sector approval
- Personal checks
- The required medical and residence steps, including the overseas process when recruited abroad
Summary
If you have a qualifying job offer in Bahrain, your employer can apply for the permits you need to live and work there. You must get the required approvals before starting the job. A tourist visa or signed offer alone does not let you work.
The employer normally handles the work application, while the residence process is coordinated with the relevant authorities. Overseas recruits also need the required medical evidence. A change of job or employer can require fresh approval, and relatives need their own permissions.
Eligibility
Your employer must be allowed to hire you under the rules of Bahrain's Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA). The job must qualify for a work permit. Some professions also need a professional license or approval.
The employer applies for the work permit and arranges the residence steps with the relevant authorities. If you are coming from abroad, you must follow the overseas recruitment process, including the required medical checks.
Ask your employer who will handle each step and which approvals you need before traveling or starting work. Keep copies of your contract and permits, and check that the approved job matches the one you agreed to.
-
Check the job and employer Ask whether the employer can obtain a work permit for you and the offered role.
-
Prepare your documents Agree on the contract and gather the required qualification, identity, and medical records.
-
Have the employer apply Arrange work and entry approvals, then complete the residence steps.
-
Check the permits Confirm the employer, occupation, expiry date, and renewal rules before starting work.
You can start the approved job once you have the required work permission.
What This Route Allows
Once approved, you can live in Bahrain and work in the job your permits cover while they remain valid. Renewal depends on continued employment and meeting the permit rules. Changing employers or occupations may require a separate application. Family members need their own residence permission and, if they want to work, the required work approval.
What This Route Is Not
This route does not let you work independently as a freelancer. Golden Residency is a separate program. A visitor visa does not allow a local job, and an employer's offer does not remove hiring restrictions or professional licensing requirements.
Next Steps
- Ask the employer to confirm that it can obtain a permit for you and the offered job.
- Agree on the contract and collect the qualification, passport, identity, and medical records on the employer's checklist.
- Have the employer arrange work and entry approvals, then complete the required residence steps.
- Before starting work, check the permit's employer, occupation, expiry date, and renewal rules.
