Pay
At least BMD 60,000 a year in base salary; higher amounts can apply to larger households

Summary

Bermuda’s family residence lets an eligible spouse join a work-permit holder, with approval based on both the relationship and the worker’s permit. The marriage or domestic partnership must be recognized by Bermuda law, and the sponsor must meet the applicable household salary requirement. Unmarried partners use a different evidence process.

The issued document determines whether the accompanying person can seek employment. Starting a job still requires their own work permit, so family residence should not be treated as permission to begin working.

Eligibility

Document a recognized marriage or domestic partnership, the sponsor’s qualifying permit, accepted household base salary, and health coverage. Include the appropriate dependent application and travel records.

From eligibility to the application
  1. Check the qualifying basis Confirm the sponsor’s permit category and household salary calculation.
  2. Prepare the application Collect relationship, insurance, and travel documents with the sponsoring employer.
  3. Complete the required process Obtain the dependent permission; apply separately for a work permit before taking a job.

The responsible authority checks the evidence and decides the application.

What This Route Allows

Residence with the sponsor and permission to seek employment where the issued document allows it. Starting a job still requires your own work permit.

What This Route Is Not

Seeking work and working are different permissions. This route does not cover every unmarried relationship, dependent relative, or child, and it does not create permanent residence or citizenship.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm the sponsor’s permit category and household salary calculation.
  2. Collect relationship, insurance, and travel documents with the sponsoring employer.
  3. Obtain the dependent permission; apply separately for a work permit before taking a job.
