Summary
You can apply to live in Bolivia through a documented job or lawful self-employment. Employees and independent workers use different documents to show what work they will do.
Temporary residence can last one, two, or three years, depending on the activity. You need an actual job or business to support the application, rather than a plan to look for work after arrival.
-
Confirm your work Identify the job, business, or services supporting your application.
-
Gather work records Prepare the contract or business records for your type of work.
-
Apply for residence Check licensing requirements and keep records for renewal.
You need documented work; a plan to find a job or clients later is not enough.
Eligibility
For employment, you need documents showing your job. A contract endorsed by the labor authority may be required. If you work independently, provide records of your business or services and any required registration.
Some professions also require a professional license. Residence permission does not replace that requirement.
You will also need identity and immigration records, proof of how you will support yourself, and the required criminal-record and health documents. Documents from abroad may need official authentication and translation. Bolivia’s migration authority, DIGEMIG, can confirm the checklist for your situation.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Bolivia and do the work covered by your permission, subject to labor and professional rules. The permission can last one, two, or three years depending on your activity.
Check the requirements when renewing, changing your work, or planning time outside Bolivia.
What This Route Is Not
This is not a job-search visa or a dedicated remote-work program. Permanent residence requires a separate application.
Next Steps
- Ask your employer or the relevant business authority which work records you need.
- Confirm any professional licensing requirements.
- Submit the residence application to DIGEMIG with your work and personal documents.
- Complete the required foreign-resident identity registration and check the renewal conditions.
