Summary
A qualifying local job can give a foreign worker a basis to live and work in the Republic of the Congo, but employment and residence need separate approvals. The employer must establish that the job meets labor requirements and provide the contract or employment certificate, with professional authorization where the role requires it. This is the Congo-Brazzaville system.
The worker must also apply for a resident card within fifteen days of entry using immigration, police, vaccination and other required records. An entry visa or offer letter alone does not authorize the job. Any return-home deposit is additional to the application fee.
Eligibility
Under Law 29-2017, residence formalities are separate from approval of the job. Provide a contract or employment certificate from an approved employer and any professional permission your role requires. The employer must check the labor requirements before work starts.
For the resident card, prepare your passport and entry permission, a recent police record, consular card, vaccination record, photos, and housing evidence if you are staying with a host.
You may also need a repatriation deposit: money held to cover a return journey if required. It is separate from the application fee.

What This Route Allows
You can live and work in the approved role and for the period covered by your permissions. An ordinary residence card generally lasts one year, but follow the dates on the card actually issued.
What This Route Is Not
A job offer, business visit, or entry visa alone does not authorize employment. The approvals do not guarantee unrestricted job changes, work rights for accompanying family, permanent residence, or citizenship.
Next Steps
- Confirm the job, employer support, and any professional approval needed.
- Gather the contract, employer documents, and required personal and return-home deposit records.
- Apply for the resident card within 15 days of entry and follow both employment and residence conditions.
