Cameroon Work Residence
At a glance
To move to Cameroon for a job, you need an approved employment contract, the correct long-stay visa, and a residence card. Your employer must support the work approval, and you must complete the local residence-card process.
- Job offer required?
- Yes, with employer support
- Contract approval
- Required from the ministry responsible for employment
- Residence documents
- Long-stay visa, local address, criminal-record extract, tax-compliance certificate, and any required return-travel guarantee
Summary
Cameroon’s employee route lets an overseas worker live there for an approved local job. The employment ministry must approve the employer-backed contract. A long-stay visa and the local residence card address other parts of the move. Complete the required approvals before beginning work; an offer or entry visa alone is not sufficient.
Eligibility
The ministry responsible for employment must approve your contract. Obtain the correct long-stay visa and any required repatriation guarantee—an arrangement covering your return home.
Under the 2025 card rules, prepare a certified copy of your passport showing the long-stay visa, a local address certificate, the specified special criminal-record extract, a current tax-compliance certificate, and evidence of your employment as the reason for staying. Complete the local registration steps for the card.
-
Get the contract approved Arrange employer support and the ministry’s approval.
-
Obtain the long-stay visa Prepare the required entry and return-home documents.
-
Complete local registration Apply for the residence card and follow both sets of conditions.
The residence card does not replace approval of the employment contract.
What This Route Allows
You can live and work in Cameroon in the role and for the period covered by your approvals. The residence card lasts two years and can be renewed twice under the 2025 decree. Your employment conditions still apply separately.
What This Route Is Not
A job offer or entry visa alone does not let you start work. The approvals do not guarantee unrestricted job changes, work rights for accompanying family, permanent residence, or citizenship.
Next Steps
- Confirm the job and your employer's support for ministry approval of the contract.
- Arrange the long-stay visa, any required return-home guarantee, and employer and personal records.
- Complete local registration for the residence card, and track both the employment and residence conditions.
