Eligibility

What This Pathway Allows

Berlin describes the route as generally allowing up to 18 months to look for employment or self-employment. Employment is allowed during the job-search period.

The long-term pathway depends on the next step. If you find qualifying work, you may switch to Germany Work Visa for Qualified Professionals, Germany EU Blue Card, or another work route.

What This Pathway Is Not

This is not a standalone permanent-residence route. It is a bridge after a qualifying German stay.

It is also not the same as the Germany Opportunity Card, which is a broader job-search route for qualified people who may not have studied or trained in Germany.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm the German program or activity was successfully completed.
  2. Confirm the current residence status and application timing.
  3. Prepare financial support and health insurance evidence.
  4. Plan the next German work, self-employment, or Blue Card pathway early.
