Gabon Work Residence

If a private-sector employer in Gabon offers you a job, you need employment authorization and a separate residence-card application through DGDI, the immigration authority. Your employer must help provide the job and business records required for the process.

Summary
Gabon offers an employment-based residence process for foreign workers taking approved local jobs. The employer supports the work authorization, contract, and verified employment certificate. The applicant also completes the separate residence process through DGDI. An entry visa or signed offer cannot substitute for the approvals needed to start the documented job.
Eligibility
Arrange your individual employment authorization, contract, and an employment certificate with the required official verification. DGDI also asks for the employer's identity, business license, and payment records.
Prepare identity and entry documents, officially verified housing proof, the host's identity and recent utility bill, and any required repatriation deposit. This deposit is money held to cover a return journey if needed, separate from the application fee.
The published DGDI form lists XAF 150,000 for a two-year card, plus the deposit. Confirm current charges before paying.
-
Arrange employment approval Prepare the authorization, contract, and employer records.
-
Prepare the residence application Gather personal, housing, and required deposit evidence.
-
Complete both permissions Follow the work and residence conditions and dates.
The residence card and employment authorization can have different expiry dates.
What This Route Allows
You can live and work in Gabon in the role and for the period approved. The published residence-card term is two years, but your employment authorization may have different dates. Follow both.
What This Route Is Not
A job offer, business visit, or entry visa alone does not let you start work. The approvals do not guarantee unrestricted job changes, work rights for accompanying family, permanent residence, or citizenship.
Next Steps
- Confirm the job and employer support for employment authorization.
- Gather the employment, employer, identity, entry, and housing records and any required deposit.
- Confirm the current charges, complete the DGDI residence process, and track both work and residence expiry dates.
