Ghana Work Residence

A job with an employer in Ghana may allow you to apply to live and work there. The employer must support the required work and residence applications with company and employment records. You also need to provide personal documents and complete the required checks.
- Job offer required?
- Yes, for a local job with employer support
- Employer records
- Contract, registration, tax clearance, accounts, and applicable approvals
- Personal checks
- Qualifications, police and medical reports, passport, and non-citizen identification
Summary
A qualifying local job can allow a foreign employee to live and work in Ghana, with the employer and worker each supporting the application. The employer supplies the contract, business registration, tax and account records and any relevant investment or ministry approval. The worker provides qualifications, police and medical evidence and the required identity documents.
The Ghana Immigration Service handles the work and residence approvals. The application concerns a local job, so an overseas remote role is not an equivalent basis. Starting work or changing jobs must follow the applicable permissions, and family members do not automatically acquire work rights.
Eligibility
Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) asks for the job offer or contract, company registration, a current tax-clearance document, the previous year’s accounts, and any relevant investment or ministry approval. Ask the employer which records apply to its business.
Your documents include qualifications, a police report from your home country, a medical report from the GIS clinic, your passport, and non-citizen identification. The work and residence applications go through GIS.
-
Confirm the job and employer support Ask which company and employment documents are needed.
-
Prepare personal records and checks Arrange the requested qualifications, police report, medical report, and identity documents.
-
Complete the work and residence applications Start only with the required approvals and track their conditions.
A job offer or entry visa alone does not give permission to start work.
What This Route Allows
With the required approvals in place, you can live in Ghana and work in the role they cover for the approved period. Check the conditions and expiry dates of both permissions.
What This Route Is Not
A job offer, business visit, or entry visa alone does not authorize work. An overseas remote job is a different situation from the local employment covered here.
This route does not promise unrestricted job changes, permanent residence, citizenship, or permission for accompanying family members to work. Check those plans separately before relying on the permit.
Next Steps
- Confirm the local job and that the employer will support the applications.
- Gather the employer’s records and arrange your police, medical, identity, and qualification documents.
- Complete the required work and residence process through GIS before starting the job.
- Follow the approved conditions and prepare any renewal before the permissions expire.
