Gibraltar Business Residence
At a glance
Running an approved local business can support a residence application in Gibraltar. The business and your personal role must qualify.
- Business
- A genuine business trading in or from Gibraltar with the required registrations and licenses
- Your role
- Self-employed person or working director; owning shares alone is not enough
- Approval order
- Business approval must come before your personal residence application
Summary
Gibraltar’s business residence is for self-employed people and working directors carrying out an accepted local activity. The business must be approved before the person applies for residence. The applicant must have an accepted working role in that business; holding shares without that role is not sufficient.
Residence follows a separate decision on the person and their circumstances. Any required work or professional approval also needs to cover the activity they will actually carry out.
Eligibility
The business must trade in or from Gibraltar, hold its registrations and licenses, and meet its payment and filing duties. Confirm the income and age criteria for your role, or obtain the required exemption. New businesses and first-time self-employed applicants can require deposits. Secure an eligible home and the required vetting records and work permission. New applications cannot rely on living on a vessel. Submit the business application first, then the individual residence application.
