Gibraltar Work Residence
At a glance
A local employer can support an application to live and work in Gibraltar, subject to the required employment and residence approvals.
- Employment
- A contract of at least one year with a compliant Gibraltar business, normally paying at least GIP 37,500 gross a year
- Age
- Normally 55 or younger; an accepted exemption is needed outside the standard rules
- Home
- An exclusively available home or a main-home rental for at least 12 months; a vessel is not accepted
Summary
Gibraltar’s employment-residence framework allows a person with a supported local position to apply to live and work there, with the relevant approvals required for both. A British or EU passport does not by itself establish residence there, so the employer and applicant must check the framework applicable to a new application.
Eligibility
The standard employee route requires a contract of at least one year, gross annual earnings currently at least GIP 37,500, a compliant local business, and age 55 or younger. An applicant outside the age, salary, or business rules needs an accepted exemption; a possible exemption is not a confirmed one. Provide an exclusively available home, or a main-home rental for at least 12 months, and the official vetting form. New applications cannot use a vessel as the home. The employer arranges work-permit approval in principle if your nationality requires it.
