Gibraltar Unmarried Partner Residence
At a glance
An unmarried partner of a person with Gibraltarian Status can apply through a separate relationship-based residence process.
- Relationship
- At least two years, durable and in person
- Partner
- Must hold Gibraltarian Status
Summary
Gibraltar allows an unmarried partner of someone with Gibraltarian Status to apply for residence based on a durable relationship maintained in person for at least two years. British citizenship alone does not establish Gibraltarian Status. The couple must document that local status as well as the continuing relationship.
Eligibility
Establish a durable, in-person relationship lasting at least two years and the partner’s Gibraltarian Status. Submit the evidence through the Department of Immigration and Home Affairs.
-
Check the qualifying basis Confirm the partner’s Gibraltarian Status and relationship history.
-
Prepare the application Ask the immigration department for its current partner checklist.
-
Complete the required process Submit the relationship and identity evidence and follow the conditions granted.
The responsible authority checks the evidence and decides the application.
What This Route Allows
Residence with the qualifying partner if the relationship application is approved.
What This Route Is Not
This is not a general route for every unmarried couple or the partner of any British citizen. Residence does not itself confer Gibraltarian Status, citizenship, or automatic work permission.
Next Steps
- Confirm the partner’s Gibraltarian Status and relationship history.
- Ask the immigration department for its current partner checklist.
- Submit the relationship and identity evidence and follow the conditions granted.
