Summary
Greece’s employee residence route starts with a local employer seeking permission to recruit from abroad for the proposed occupation and region. Available admission places and the contract affect that decision. A willing employer and signed offer do not alone authorize the worker to begin employment or freelance for others.
-
Available admission category The employer checks the occupation and region.
-
Qualifying contract Document the job, wage, and employer's ability to pay.
-
Visa and residence Follow the approved employment with matching worker records.
A job offer alone cannot replace the employer's hiring approval.
Eligibility
For the ordinary employee route, the Greek employer applies for approval to recruit from abroad. Approval depends on the available admission places for the region and occupation, as well as the proposed contract.
The employer must have an available admission category, a qualifying contract, and the financial capacity to pay the required wage. An attractive job offer alone cannot override the hiring approval.
The employment contract must identify the real job and its pay and conditions. You also need the qualifications or professional license required for that role in Greece; experience alone does not replace a mandatory license.
More about this route
This means that finding a willing employer is only part of the picture. The employer must also have access to the appropriate admission places and demonstrate a qualifying contract and the ability to pay the wage. The route becomes practical when both the job and that recruitment approval can support the worker’s immigration application.
What This Route Allows
The permit allows you to live in Greece and do the work covered by the approval. Permission covers the authorized work as an employee. If the employer or role changes, the applicable notification or approval procedure needs to be checked before relying on the existing permission for the new job.
What This Route Is Not
A job offer does not by itself authorize work. This route does not cover general freelancing or unrestricted work for other employers.
Next Steps
The Greek employer can check the available admission category for the occupation and region before applying to recruit from abroad. The worker’s visa and residence arrangements then follow the approved employment, with the contract and qualification records describing the same position.
