Honduras Long-Term Residence

Honduras Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

After at least five consecutive years in Honduras with continuously valid residence or special stay cards, you can apply for the long-term resident category called inmigrado. Immigration must certify your status history and compliance. Tourist stays and periods without lawful status do not meet this requirement.

Who can apply
Residents or special stay permit holders with five consecutive documented years
Residence evidence
An INM certificate confirming continuous card validity and the residence or permit decisions
Background checks
Provide Honduran criminal-record and pending-proceedings certificates

Summary

Honduras has a long-term resident category for people who have spent at least five consecutive years there with continuously valid residence or special stay cards. The application requires certified status history and compliance records. This is not citizenship or a way to regularize five years of irregular presence. The continuity of the card and the underlying stay matters as much as elapsed time. Confirm any absences or status gaps with INM.

Eligibility

Five years with continuously valid documents

Article 39 covers both residents and special stay permit holders. The relevant card must have remained valid throughout the qualifying period.

Official confirmation of your history

Ask INM, Honduras’s National Migration Institute, for the certification required by Article 40. It must confirm the card’s continuous validity and include the residence or permit decision details and foreigner-registration number. Supply a copy of your current card too.

Conduct and supporting records

You must have complied with Honduran law and meet the rule on foreign deportation, expulsion, and convictions. Prepare the local criminal-record and pending-proceedings certificates and the required representative documents.

Continuous valid cards establish the long-term history
  1. At least five consecutive years Maintain qualifying cards Residence or special-stay cards must remain continuously valid.

What This Route Allows

Approval grants the separate resident category known as inmigrado. It is an application based on established lawful stay, rather than an automatic change when a permit reaches five years.

What This Route Is Not

This is not citizenship or a way to regularize five years of irregular presence. The continuity of the card and the underlying stay matters as much as elapsed time. Confirm any absences or status gaps with INM.

Next Steps

  1. Gather old permits, renewal decisions, your current card, and registration records.
  2. Ask INM to certify the complete five-year history and resolve any absence or status gaps.
  3. Prepare the conduct and representative documents and submit the separate application.
  4. Wait for approval before treating your status as inmigrado.
