Summary
Honduras’s private-employment category covers eligible professional, technical, management, and other specialized roles under a contract lasting more than three months. The employer must provide business and labor-compliance records, and the worker must document the qualifications appropriate to the role. This is permission for the supported job, rather than a general job-search stay.
-
Confirm the eligible role and contract term Check qualifications and any professional restrictions.
-
Prepare the company’s undertaking and records Verify foreign-worker compliance and employer readiness.
-
Coordinate the INM and labor process Obtain required permission before working and check any later job change.
A contract alone is not an open work permit or authorization to begin employment.
Eligibility
A qualifying contract and role
Provide a notarized employment contract from the private company. The position must fit the contracted-personnel category, and the applicant must document the education, professional training, or technical preparation appropriate to it.
Professional licensing or recognition remains separate where required. A universal university degree is not imposed on every role, but a person without the necessary evidence should not assume experience alone will replace it.
An employer able to support the application
The company must provide the required written commitment concerning support and departure and notify immigration when the employment relationship ends. It also needs a certificate from the labor authority establishing compliance with the foreign-worker provisions of the Constitution and Labor Code.
The regulation asks for authenticated business-formation and operating documents, evidence that the business is active, and accountant-authorized financial statements. Confirm current equivalents where the legislation names a predecessor tax agency.
Personal records and labor documentation
Use a Honduran legal representative to confirm the current way to submit the application and checklist with the National Migration Institute, known as INM. The regulation requires passport records, applicable foreign and Honduran background evidence, a medical certificate, photographs, and fees. Foreign documents need the required authentication and Spanish translation. Older legislation uses predecessor agencies’ names, so confirm who now issues each record.
Workers must also obtain the applicable labor card. A contract or pending immigration application does not itself establish permission to begin work.
What This Route Allows
Approval supports the specified employment and stay for the period granted, within the statutory special-permit framework. Confirm the conditions before changing employers, roles, or activities. Accompanying relatives require their own eligibility and documentation review.
A later inmigrado application may be available after five consecutive qualifying years with valid documents and compliance. It is separate from the work permission and is not an automatic change on an anniversary.
What This Route Is Not
It is not an open work permit or permission to enter simply to look for a job. Government employment, other migrant-worker categories, and self-employment have different requirements; this page covers contracted employees of private companies.
Next Steps
- Confirm the role, contract term, qualifications, and any professional restrictions.
- Ask the employer to verify foreign-worker compliance and assemble its undertaking and business records.
- Coordinate the INM application and labor documentation before work begins.
- Keep the card current and obtain advice before an employer or job change.
