Summary
Croatia's digital-nomad temporary stay is for third-country nationals who work remotely through communication technology for an employer or their own company that is not registered in Croatia. The Ministry of the Interior is explicit that digital nomads must not perform work or provide services to employers in Croatia.
The stay can be granted for up to 18 months. Croatia does not publish a single fixed euro amount in the way many nomad visas do; instead, it uses a formula based on Croatian average monthly net salary, with an increase for family members.
Eligibility
You generally qualify if all of the following are true:
- You are not an EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen.
- You work through communication technology for a foreign employer or your own foreign company.
- You do not work for or provide services to Croatian employers.
- You can show enough means under Croatia's current formula: at least 2.5 average monthly net salaries paid for the previous year, plus 10% of that average monthly net salary for each family member.
- You have health insurance, a valid passport, proof of purpose, a clean criminal record, and a Croatian address.
Duration
Digital-nomad temporary stay can be granted for up to 18 months. If initially granted for a shorter period, it can be extended up to the 18-month maximum. A new application can be filed only after a waiting period following expiry.
What this pathway allows
This pathway can let you live in Croatia while continuing remote work for a foreign employer, foreign clients, or your own non-Croatian company.
What this pathway is not
This is not a Croatian local-employment pathway and should not be treated as a direct permanent-residence pathway.
Next Steps
- Confirm your work is remote and foreign-source.
- Check the current Croatian average net salary benchmark and calculate the household means requirement.
- Prepare proof of work purpose, funds, insurance, criminal record, passport validity, and Croatian address.
- Apply online, through a Croatian diplomatic mission, or through the local police administration after entering Croatia if eligible.
