Summary
Slovenia's digital-nomad permit lets eligible remote workers live there temporarily while continuing foreign employment, services work, or self-employment abroad. Applicants need records showing the overseas arrangement, the required monthly support, health coverage, and compliance with the general entry and residence rules.
The permit lasts up to one year and cannot be renewed for another consecutive year; a new digital-nomad application requires a six-month break after expiry. Qualifying family can join without the usual initial wait. A longer stay or local Slovenian employment needs a different suitable residence basis.
Eligibility
EEA means the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
The applicant must be outside the EU/EEA citizenship categories covered by ordinary mobility rights and have a documented foreign remote-work arrangement. This pathway is presented for applicants without European free-movement rights. Monthly support must reach twice the current official average net salary.
Health coverage, identity records, and the general entry and residence conditions still apply. An existing visit is not permission to disregard its expiry date while arranging the application.
More about this route
The route is best understood as a defined period abroad. The permit lasts up to one year and cannot simply be renewed for a second consecutive year. A household considering a longer move would need another residence basis, although qualifying family members can join without the usual waiting period.
-
Remote-work arrangement Document the foreign employer, service contract, or foreign self-employment.
-
Financial benchmark Show support at twice the current official average net salary.
-
Residence file Prepare health coverage, identity, and the applicable entry records.
The permit covers a defined stay of up to one year and does not authorize joining the local labor market.
What This Route Allows
The permit allows up to one year living in Slovenia while doing the approved remote work. Qualifying family reunification does not require an initial waiting period. During the permit’s validity, an applicant may request another residence category if a different purpose, such as qualifying local employment, develops.
What This Route Is Not
This is not permission to take a Slovenian job, and it is not a renewable two-year remote-work permit. A fresh digital-nomad application requires six months to have passed after the previous permit expired. Immigration approval also leaves the employer’s tax, payroll, and employment-law obligations to be assessed separately.
Next Steps
- Document where the employer or business is based and how your work is performed.
- Check the latest salary benchmark and prepare financial and health-coverage evidence.
- File through the consulate responsible for the application or administrative unit and include separate family applications where relevant.
