Italy-Canada Youth Exchange
The Italy-Canada Youth Exchange Program is a temporary route for eligible Canadian citizens who want to spend time in Italy through a working-holiday, work, or study/intern category.
Who This Helps
- Canadian citizens aged 18 to 35.
- People with a valid Canadian passport.
- Applicants looking for a temporary Italy stay, usually up to about 12 months.
- Canadians who fit one of the program categories: working holiday, work, or study/intern.
What It Gives
This pathway can let an eligible Canadian citizen live in Italy temporarily and work under the category rules. Canada's official guidance says participants can stay in Italy for up to 12 months and may participate twice under the category of their choice.
What It Is Not
This is not a direct permanent-residence route. It is also not available to U.S. citizens unless they also hold Canadian citizenship. For longer-term Italy plans, compare employee work, study, family, digital nomad, elective residence, investor, startup, or other residence routes.
Typical Next Steps
- Confirm Canadian citizenship, age, and passport validity.
- Choose the right category: working holiday, work, or study/intern.
- Gather category-specific documents, funds, insurance, and any job or internship paperwork needed.
- Apply through the Italian process for Canadian applicants.
