Lesotho Spouse Residence
At a glance
If your spouse is a Lesotho citizen or a resident whose status Home Affairs accepts, you can apply for permission to live together in Lesotho. You need proof of your marriage and your spouse's status, plus your own approved family application.
- Who may qualify
- The spouse of a citizen or resident accepted by Home Affairs
- Marriage
- Must be legally recognized and documented
- Supporting records
- Check financial support, housing, medical, insurance, and personal requirements
Summary
A foreign spouse may apply to live with their husband or wife in Lesotho when Home Affairs accepts the sponsor's citizenship or residence status and the marriage is legally recognized. The applicant provides the family records together with the financial, housing, medical and insurance evidence required for that category.
Check whether a family entry visa must precede a local residence application. The marriage does not itself create immigration permission, and children have their own requirements. Any work or business plans must be assessed separately against the approved status.
Eligibility
Document the legally recognized marriage and your spouse's qualifying citizenship or residence status. Ask Home Affairs for the current checklist and fees for your spouse category.
Prepare financial-support, accommodation, passport, medical, and insurance evidence as required. Check whether you need a family entry visa before completing a separate local residence application.
-
Confirm the spouse category Ask Home Affairs to check the marriage and your spouse’s status.
-
Prepare the current checklist Gather family, support, housing, and personal records.
-
Apply for permission Complete the required entry and residence steps.
Your own family application must be approved; marriage alone does not issue a permit.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Lesotho as a spouse for the period and under the conditions stated on your permit.
What This Route Is Not
Marriage alone does not give you a permit or citizenship. Children and other relatives have their own requirements. Check separately whether your planned work or business needs permission.
Next Steps
- Confirm that Home Affairs accepts your marriage and your spouse's status for the category.
- Gather the relationship, support, housing, personal, medical, and insurance records on the current checklist.
- Complete the required family entry and residence applications, and follow the work and renewal conditions.
