Latvia Remote-Work Visa
At a glance
Latvia offers a one-year visa for eligible remote workers whose employment or self-employment is registered in an OECD country. You must be able to do the work from Latvia. The OECD requirement concerns where your work is registered, rather than your passport.

Summary
Latvia’s remote-work visa allows an eligible person to stay while working for a foreign employer or business. Eligibility depends on where that employment or self-employment is registered, rather than simply on nationality. The work must have the required OECD-country connection and be capable of being performed from Latvia. Six months of work or income evidence supports that history.
The current published income threshold is €4,538 per month. The resulting visa is a temporary basis for the qualifying foreign work and does not authorize a local Latvian job. Keep the employer or business evidence aligned with the activity described in the application.
Eligibility
- An employer registered in an OECD country, or self-employment registered in such a country. This pathway screens foreign work outside Latvia.
- Employees: current employment and at least six months with that employer, with pay and remote-work confirmation.
- Self-employed applicants: tax-authority evidence of qualifying self-employment income over the last six months.
- Income at the published threshold: PMLP’s June 2026 page states €4,538 per month, calculated from 2.5 times the previous year’s average gross wage.
- Accommodation evidence and insurance valid in Latvia and the Schengen states, currently with at least €42,600 of liability coverage.
-
Verify the registration country Confirm the foreign employer or self-employment is registered in a qualifying OECD country.
-
Document the six-month record Employees need the required employment history; self-employed applicants need the accepted tax-authority evidence.
-
Prepare the visa file Check current income, housing, insurance, and remote-work documentation.
An OECD passport is not the qualifying connection. The employment and self-employment branches use different evidence.
What This Route Allows
The visa supports a temporary stay while doing the qualifying remote work. An employer’s permission to work abroad remains important. Check the applicable filing process and current visa conditions before arranging the move.
What This Route Is Not
It does not give a right to local Latvian employment. A newly imagined remote business, passive income alone, or an OECD passport without the required work arrangement is insufficient. This is a temporary visa rather than a grant of permanent residence.
Next Steps
- Verify the registration country against the OECD membership list.
- Assemble employer or tax-authority evidence covering the required period.
- Check the latest income amount, housing, and insurance requirements.
- Follow PMLP and the responsible consular post’s visa instructions.
