Morocco Citizen Spouse Residence

Morocco Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

If you are legally married to a Moroccan citizen, you can apply for a residence card through your marriage. Morocco must recognize the marriage, and your entry and stay must be lawful. You still need to submit the application and supporting records; marriage alone does not put a residence card in your hands.

Summary

A foreign spouse can apply to live with a Moroccan citizen through the citizen-spouse residence category, with a legally recognized marriage and lawful entry and stay required. The applicant presents the spouse's citizenship evidence and their own identity and immigration records through the local office responsible for foreign residents.

Confirm which marriage records and certifications that office accepts, particularly for foreign documents. Marriage does not remove the application requirement or grant citizenship. Any proposed employment or business should be checked against the additional permissions it needs.

Eligibility

Article 17 of Morocco’s residence law includes foreign spouses of Moroccan citizens among the people who can receive a residence card, subject to lawful entry, lawful stay, and the other conditions in the law.

Prepare proof of the marriage, your spouse’s Moroccan citizenship, your identity, and your current immigration status. Ask the local office responsible for foreign residents which marriage records it will accept and whether any documents need further certification.

Applying to live in Morocco with your spouse
  1. Confirm the marriage is recognized Ask which marriage and citizenship records the residence office accepts.
  2. Prepare identity and immigration records Show that your entry and stay meet the rules.
  3. Apply and check the issued residence card Confirm its conditions, renewal date, and any separate work requirements.

You still need the residence-card process even when the marriage meets the legal requirements.

What This Route Allows

Once issued, the residence card allows you to live in Morocco through your recognized marriage. Read the period and conditions on the card, and confirm what you must provide when renewing it.

What This Route Is Not

Marriage does not automatically grant citizenship or replace the residence application. Do not assume the card gives unrestricted work permission. If you plan to take a job or run a business, check which additional approval is needed for that activity.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm that Morocco recognizes the marriage and ask for the spouse residence-card checklist.
  2. Gather marriage, citizenship, identity, and lawful-entry and stay records.
  3. Submit the application to the local office responsible for foreign residents.
  4. Check the card’s expiry date, renewal requirements, and any separate permission needed for work.
