Summary
If a Macao employer is approved to hire you, it can help arrange permission for you to stay and work there. You also need the nonresident worker identification card.
This permission covers the approved job. Despite allowing you to live in Macao during the employment, it does not give you Macao resident status.
Eligibility
The employer must first get the labor authority’s approval to hire you. The police then handle your permission to stay and worker identification card. The application process depends on the type of worker and your nationality.
Ask your employer to confirm the job category, who submits each application, and when you may legally start work. Check whether your qualifications need official certification or the profession needs a separate license.
Coordinate the hiring approval, entry arrangements, police application, and identity checks. Complete the temporary-stay and worker-card steps by the stated deadlines. Arriving as a visitor does not allow you to start work.
-
Get employer approval The employer obtains permission to hire you.
-
Complete the police process Follow entry instructions and arrange your stay authorization and worker card.
-
Start the approved job After the required approvals Confirm the legal start date and keep the permits valid.
A visitor stay is not permission to work. The worker card is separate from Macao resident status.
What This Route Allows
The approved authorization and worker card let you stay and work in the named employment while its requirements continue to be met. Read your own documents for the dates and conditions; not every worker receives the longest possible period.
A change of employer or duties may need new approval. Family members need separate checks of whether they can join you and whether they may work.
What This Route Is Not
A nonresident worker card is not a resident identity card. Time under this permission does not, by itself, start the ordinary-residence period used for permanent status.
It does not give citizenship or automatic permanent residence. Check the separate procedures for mainland Chinese applicants and any other rules specific to your nationality.
Next Steps
- Ask the employer to confirm the work category and obtain the hiring approval.
- Prepare your contract, qualifications, passport, and any required health or background records.
- Follow the entry instructions and complete the police and worker-card steps on time.
- Check your start date, expiry dates, employer restrictions, and renewal process before working.
