Summary

A place at an eligible Malaysian university or other higher-education institution can let you apply for a Student Pass. The institution and, where applicable, Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) help coordinate the process.

Admission and immigration approval are separate. Ask the institution how the application works in its location.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

You need an accepted course offer, the required academic and identity records, and evidence that you can cover tuition and living costs.

Arrange the accepted medical insurance and health screening. Confirm which steps your institution, EMGS, and Immigration handle, including any location-specific procedure.

Preparing for higher education in Malaysia
  1. Confirm your course and application process Ask the institution which approvals and local procedures apply.
  2. Prepare study, funding, and health records Follow the institution’s current checklist.
  3. Complete and maintain your Student Pass Follow arrival and renewal instructions and obtain approval before permitted work.

Student work permission is restricted to the approved sectors, hours, and qualifying breaks.

What This Route Allows

The Student Pass lets you stay for the approved course and period. Follow the entry, medical-screening, and pass-completion instructions and renew before expiry.

Limited part-time work may be possible with prior Immigration approval in permitted sectors. General student guidance limits this to 20 hours a week during breaks or holidays longer than seven days.

What This Route Is Not

The work rule does not let you work 20 hours every week throughout the year. It is also not a full-time employment pass.

A later Graduate Pass has separate nationality, graduation, sponsorship, and current-status requirements. Completing a degree does not automatically qualify you.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm the institution and course are eligible and obtain the current application checklist.
  2. Gather the offer, academic records, passport, funding evidence, insurance, and required health documents.
  3. Complete approval, entry, medical screening, and the Student Pass as instructed. Keep the pass valid throughout your studies and seek approval before any part-time work.
