Summary
Papua New Guinea’s working-residence permission allows a foreign worker to live there for an approved job. The employer’s online application now incorporates the required work-permit information. The employer still needs to sponsor an eligible role, and the worker supplies the contract, qualification, identity, health, and character evidence needed for the decision.
The approved employer and activities control the permission, so an unrelated job cannot simply be started using the original grant.
Eligibility
Both the employer and the job must qualify. Prepare the contract, qualifications, identity records, and required health and character evidence with the employer’s help.
If your profession is regulated, you may also need local professional registration before doing the work.
-
Confirm the job and employer qualify Check the sponsorship and any professional-registration requirements.
-
Prepare the employer’s online application Include the work-permit and personal evidence required by ICA.
-
Obtain approval before starting Follow the approved job, activities, and dates.
The current employer process includes the required work-permit checks.
What This Route Allows
Current guidance from the Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) describes multiple-entry working residence for six months to three years. Follow the actual dates, employer, and activities stated in your approval.
What This Route Is Not
A business visa or job offer alone does not authorize employment. Changing employer or activity requires the appropriate approval.
This is temporary permission, not permanent residence. Accompanying family members need their own status.
Next Steps
- Confirm the job and employer meet the sponsorship requirements.
- Have the employer prepare the work and visa application through ICA’s Sponsor Portal.
- Obtain the required approval before starting and track the permitted job, activities, and expiry dates.
