Portuguese Stateless Naturalization

Summary

Portugal has a specific naturalization rule for stateless people who legally live in Portugal. Under the current nationality law, stateless applicants can use a four-year legal residence period, while still meeting language, civic, record, security, and sanctions checks.

This route is separate from the rule for a person born in Portugal who would otherwise be stateless.

Eligibility

You may be a fit if:

• You are stateless, meaning no country recognizes you as a citizen.
• You are not already Portuguese.

What This Route Allows

What This Route Is Not
