Summary

This was a special naturalization category for certain people who lost Portuguese nationality during decolonization, remained in Portugal from before 25 April 1974, and met additional conditions, as well as certain children born in Portugal. Organic Law 1/2026 expressly revoked that category for new applications from 19 May 2026.

A procedure that was already pending on 19 May 2026 remains governed by the earlier law. Some Justice Ministry pages still list the former category while procedures are being updated; that does not recreate a statutory route for a new filing.
