Eligibility
The ordinary window is the three months before the temporary card expires. The published procedure allows a late application within one month after expiration with a fine. After that, ask the migration authority whether you need to renew your temporary residence or take other steps to restore lawful status.
The authority requires sufficient, verifiable evidence of actual income or available resources. Its current annex distinguishes employment, professional or business activity, pensions, students, and qualifying financial support; a statement without supporting records is not always enough.
The checklist includes the temporary-residence card, Paraguayan identity card, any changed civil or personal records, and applicable police, court, and Interpol certificates. Minors have additional parental-status and consent requirements.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Paraguay indefinitely. The physical residence card still needs renewal every ten years.
What This Route Is Not
This is not automatic citizenship or the separate MERCOSUR permanent-residence process. Missing the filing window can change which procedure is available.
Next Steps
- Check your temporary card’s expiration date and plan to apply during the preceding three months.
- Choose the financial-support category that matches your actual circumstances and gather its documents.
- Prepare your temporary-residence and identity cards, updated personal records, and required background certificates.
- Apply through the Migration Directorate. A late application within one month carries a fine; later cases need a different assessment.
- After approval, keep track of the ten-year card renewal.
