Summary

Rwanda’s category K retirement option lets eligible retirees live there without relying on local work. The file needs a retirement certificate and accepted evidence of reliable support, including a local bank record. It is assessed as a stay without work. General savings alone should not be treated as a substitute for the published retirement evidence.

What This Route Allows

If approved, you can live in Rwanda on a nonworking retirement basis for up to two years, subject to the conditions of your permit.

What This Route Is Not

This route does not give you permission to take a local job or run a business. Buying a home alone does not qualify you, and the permit does not grant citizenship.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm the age, retirement-evidence, support, and activity rules that apply to your case.
  2. Gather your retirement certificate, financial records, local medical insurance, and personal documents.
  3. Obtain the required entry and residence permissions. Check renewal rules and any limits on time outside Rwanda.
