Summary

An eligible full-time course can let you apply for a Student’s Pass to study in Singapore. The application process depends on the type of institution.

If you already hold certain valid dependent or long-term visit passes, you may be able to study without a separate Student’s Pass. Check with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) before applying to change your status.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

You need admission to an eligible full-time course and the institution’s support in the relevant ICA process. Prepare the requested personal, education, and financial records.

Preparing for full-time study in Singapore
  1. Confirm the course and need for a pass Ask the institution and ICA how your current status affects the application.
  2. Complete the institution’s application process Provide the required personal, study, and financial records.
  3. Follow the study and work conditions Check any job or internship with MOM’s rules before starting.

Student work exemptions apply only to specified institutions and arrangements.

What This Route Allows

The pass lets you stay for the approved studies. Some full-time students at institutions specifically listed by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) can work without a separate work pass under a limited exemption.

During term, eligible arrangements include work within the 16-hour weekly limit or a qualifying course internship. The school, course, and vacation rules matter, so check the actual arrangement before starting.

What This Route Is Not

The work exemption does not cover every school or student. Exchange students do not have a general right to work under it.

Graduation does not automatically give you a work pass or permanent residence.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm full-time admission and ask the institution which ICA process applies.
  2. Check whether you need a Student’s Pass, then prepare the required course, personal, and financial records.
  3. Complete pass issuance and check any proposed work against MOM’s current exemption. Plan your next permission before student status ends.
