Summary
A professional job offer in Taiwan can lead to work and residence permission if the job, employer, and your background meet the rules. Your employer arranges the work permit, and you complete the resident visa and residence-card process.
The residence card is called an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC). This route ties your permission to the approved job.
Eligibility
Your employer must obtain a work permit for an eligible professional or other covered white-collar job. The required salary, qualifications, experience, and employer records depend on the job category and any exemptions. A foreign degree alone is not enough.
For the resident visa, Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) generally requires:
- A passport valid for at least six months.
- The employer’s work permit, with more than six months remaining.
- The other documents on the relevant application checklist.
Ask your employer which job category applies, who handles each application, and when you may legally start work. Your qualifications may need official certification, and some professions require a separate license.
Check BOCA’s passport restrictions and where you must apply. If you are already in Taiwan, do not assume your current visitor permission allows you to switch to work residence there.
-
Check the job category Confirm the salary, qualifications, employer requirements, and any professional license.
-
Obtain the work and visa approvals Your employer handles the work permit; check the resident visa process that applies to you.
-
Apply for your residence card Complete the ARC process on time and confirm when you may start the approved job.
A job offer alone does not authorize work. Follow the permit, visa, and residence-card requirements.
What This Route Allows
You can live in Taiwan and do the job covered by the approvals. The documents state how long you may stay and any restrictions. Changing your employer or duties can require new approval.
Complete your ARC application within the applicable 30-day deadline. A spouse or child must qualify separately for family residence and check their own work rights.
What This Route Is Not
This does not give you the freedom to change jobs offered by an Employment Gold Card. Blue-collar work, an unrelated freelance business, and work rights through family residence follow different rules.
It does not automatically lead to permanent residence or citizenship.
Next Steps
- Confirm the job category and that the employer can obtain the necessary work permit.
- Prepare your contract, qualifications, passport, and any required health or background records.
- Follow the work-permit and visa process, then apply for your ARC on time.
- Check your start date, permitted duties, employer restrictions, and renewal deadline before beginning work.
