Summary

Eligibility

The government service says the applicant must have lived there for ten years in a row, without an absence longer than a year, and generally no more than 90 days away in any year. It notes that illness, education, and government or military service may be treated differently. Applicants provide local police and medical certificates, references, financial and income records, and evidence of community ties. The Immigration Board reviews the case and Cabinet makes the decision.

What This Route Allows

If approved, the applicant receives a Residence Status certificate. The government says the certificate must be renewed every five years. Ask Immigration to confirm the work rights on the issued document.

What This Route Is Not

This is not automatic at the ten-year mark, a first-entry permit, Belonger Status, British Overseas Territories citizenship, or a British passport. An exceptional absence needs government assessment rather than a self-declared waiver.
