Summary
A foreign resident of Azerbaijan can support a spouse, a child under 18, or a dependent adult child unable to work. The family must provide relationship records and the sponsor’s consent as well as proof of valid temporary or permanent residence.
This page concerns the family of a foreign resident. Relatives of Azerbaijani citizens have a different legal basis and a different definition of eligible relatives. Identifying the sponsor’s status is therefore part of choosing the right family application, rather than a detail to resolve after filing.
Eligibility
This pathway is for a spouse, child under 18, or dependent adult child unable to work, joining a foreign national who holds temporary or permanent residence in Azerbaijan.
The sponsor must hold valid Azerbaijani residence and provide the required consent and family records. The applicant must meet the residence, address, and health-document requirements.
The family must document the relationship and meet the applicable support, housing, and health-coverage requirements. Marriage and birth records from abroad may need authentication and translation before they can be accepted in Azerbaijan.
-
Verify the resident sponsor Obtain valid Azerbaijani temporary or permanent residence and the required consent.
-
Document the covered family category Establish spouse, minor child, or the qualifying dependent adult child's circumstances.
-
Complete the residence evidence Prepare relationship, address, health, support, and other required records.
Relatives of Azerbaijani citizens use a different legal basis. Adult-child dependency needs specific evidence.
What This Route Allows
A family permit allows you to live with the sponsoring relative in Azerbaijan. Permission to work depends on the category and any additional employment requirements. The joining relative should have their own status documented; the sponsor’s residence card does not serve as the family member’s permission.
What This Route Is Not
The approved family category determines the rights granted. Living with a relative is not itself citizenship, and a later change in the relationship or the sponsor’s status can affect renewal.
Next Steps
The sponsor’s Azerbaijani residence document and consent establish the resident-family basis. The applicant can then prepare relationship records and any evidence required for an adult child’s inability to work, together with the address and health documents. A relative of an Azerbaijani citizen should check the separate citizen-family category instead.
