Summary
If you own a qualifying home in Bahrain worth at least BHD 50,000 and have stable income of at least BHD 500 a month, you may be able to apply for residence without an employer or family sponsor. This is a separate option from Golden Residency.
The published service offers two-, five-, and ten-year permits, with the grant determined by the application. Ownership, income, banking, and local insurance evidence need to support the stay. Golden Residency has different thresholds and should be assessed separately.
Eligibility
You need to own a qualifying Bahraini home worth at least BHD 50,000 and show stable monthly income of at least BHD 500. Having enough money to buy a home is not the same as owning one.
The government checklist asks for a certified ownership record, electricity bill, recent bank statements, local medical insurance, proof of good conduct, and identity documents. It also lists previous residence records, even for a new application.
Ask Bahrain's Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) to confirm:
- How to apply if you are outside Bahrain.
- Whether a deposit or minimum bank balance is required.
- Whether an authorized representative must submit the application.
- Which previous residence records you need.
Before buying, check that foreign buyers can own the particular property and that its ownership and valuation records are accepted for this permit. Qualifying for residence does not show whether a property is a good investment.
-
Check the application rules Ask NPRA how to apply, which financial requirements apply, and whether the property qualifies.
-
Verify the property Check ownership records, foreign-ownership rules, and valuation before buying.
-
Prepare and submit your application Provide property, income, bank, insurance, and identity records as directed.
-
Check your permit Confirm its length and renewal rules, and arrange separate work approval if needed.
Owning a qualifying property is only part of the application. NPRA must approve your residence.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Bahrain without an employer or family sponsor for the period granted. The service lists two-, five-, and ten-year options, subject to its rules. Check renewal requirements and what property, income, savings, and insurance you must keep.
What This Route Is Not
This permit is separate from Golden Residency and does not give you citizenship or unrestricted permission to work. The BHD 50,000 property requirement does not qualify you for the separate Golden Residency property option. Work and regulated business activities need the appropriate approvals.
Next Steps
- Ask NPRA how you should apply, which financial documents you need, and whether the property qualifies.
- Before buying, verify ownership records, foreign-ownership rules, and the accepted valuation.
- Prepare the property, income, banking, insurance, and identity records and submit the application as directed.
- Check the granted permit length and renewal requirements. If you plan to work, confirm which separate approval you need.
