Botswana Work Residence
At a glance
If a local employer offers you a job in Botswana, you need both work permission and lawful residence. Being allowed to enter without a visa does not remove these requirements. Your employer must support the job and the required applications.
- Job offer required?
- Yes, with local employer support
- Permissions
- Work and residence approval are both required
- Recruitment evidence
- A job advertisement no more than six months old
Summary
Botswana’s employee route allows a foreign worker to take a supported local job, with the employer providing both work and residence evidence, including the required recent recruitment advertisement. Visa-free entry does not remove either approval. The resulting permission concerns the documented job, so do not assume it also covers an unrelated employer.
Eligibility
Provide the offer and contract, a job advertisement no more than six months old, your qualifications and CV, and any required professional approval. Where required, the employer must also give details of local understudies—workers being trained to take over the role.
Prepare certified passport and personal records, photos, and financial-support evidence for the work and residence applications. If your nationality requires an employment entry visa, obtain it too. Confirm the approved dates before planning travel.
-
Confirm the job Arrange employer support and recruitment evidence.
-
Apply for work and residence Prepare qualifications, personal records, and any training evidence.
-
Check entry and permit dates Obtain any required entry visa and follow both permissions.
Visa-free entry is not permission to work or live in Botswana.
What This Route Allows
You can live and work in Botswana in the approved role and for the period granted. Check the term and renewal requirements on each permission.
What This Route Is Not
A job offer, business visit, or entry visa alone does not authorize employment. The approvals do not guarantee unrestricted job changes, work rights for accompanying family, permanent residence, or citizenship.
Next Steps
- Confirm the job and your employer's support for the applications.
- Gather the recruitment, employment, qualification, and personal records, including local-worker training evidence where required.
- Complete the work, residence, and any required entry-visa process, then follow the issued conditions.
